Recap and Leon County Partner on a World First

We couldn’t ask for a better place to launch this.

Leon County isn’t just any partner—it’s a forward-thinking community that already sees waste differently. Maggie Theriot leads the amazing team in the Office of Resource Stewardship, which brings together sustainability, solid waste, parks, and facilities under one umbrella, with a shared philosophy: these systems are connected, and materials we call “waste” still have value.

That alignment matters.

It means we’re not just testing technology—we’re working within a system that’s designed to think about resources holistically.

There’s also something fitting about doing this in Florida’s capital.

Leon County is home to Florida State University, Florida A&M University, and Tallahassee State College—an incredible concentration of research, talent, and institutional support. Being in that environment opens the door to collaboration, innovation, and workforce development as this model grows.

And of course, there’s the headline:

This is the first time a biochar operation like this is being deployed at an active solid waste facility.

Anywhere.

We’re proud to be doing it here.

We’re in the final prep stages now, and our equipment will be arriving in a few weeks. This is about to get real.  Stay tuned for updates.
